 The Department of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership (EPOL) in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) invites applications for a full-time tenured/tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in Social Foundations in Education with an emphasis in Philosophy of Education. The Department of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership (EPOL) includes concentrations in Educational Administration and Leadership, Higher Education, Human Resource Development, Global Studies in Education, Learning Design and Leadership, and Social Science and Educational Policy.

 We seek applicants who can relate philosophical insights to the study of important policy-relevant topics within the field of education, especially in relation to issues of equity, diversity and inclusion. We are especially interested in candidates who study ethical issues as well as wider topics in normative social and political philosophy, though we welcome applicants with a broader range of philosophical interests pertinent to educational issues.

 The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in social foundations, philosophy of education, research methods, and educational policy (on campus and online) as well as advise on campus and online graduate students. EPOL and the College of Education encourages collaborations across departmental, college and campus colleagues, particularly where the humanities can feature centrally in educational pursuits.

 QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have:

• An earned doctorate in social foundations, philosophy, educational philosophy, or a closely related field.

• A record of excellent scholarship or demonstrated potential for excellent scholarship.

• A record of excellence or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, including online teaching.

• A record of excellence or demonstrated potential for excellence in mentoring and advising graduate students.

• A demonstrated capacity or potential to obtain external funding for research, alone or in collaboration with others.

 RANK, SALARY, STARTING DATE

This is a regular, full-time, 9 month tenure-track position. Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor with tenure will be based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The starting date for this position is August 16, 2020.
